Is civil disobedience against mask mandates supported by Acts 5:29?

What is the Biblical basis for pastors like Artur Pawlowski refusing to follow public health directives?

When using verses, one should also consider the context, from what i gather that verse is situated where they were commanded not to be preaching about Christ, a form of persecution. Is a mandate directed towards public safety the same thing? I would think not.

Government isn't recognizing religion as an exemption anyway.

I'd lean on previous suprement court decision - the Supreme Court noted in its 1992 Riggins V. Nevada decision that “the forcible injection of medication into a nonconsenting person’s body represents a substantial interference with that person’s liberty.”
The legal basis is that mandates are not Law.
@UnderLockDown Actually, they are. Some mask mandates specify civil penalties such as fines - just like traffic laws. Other mask mandates have criminal penalties.

Here's what Jesus said about civil disobedience:
Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
@ElwoodBlues He was quite contrary - He taught his disciples how to heal disease and sent them to do so. And you're absolutely correct - there is no provision for "anti-masking"

The Most High is not quite so concerned with carnal matters, like wether or not we wear masks, as He is with the End Game, which is bigger than anything we experience down here. Some people take comfort in that, and in others it incites intense rage.
@SW-User I have a neighbor, lovely young woman, who is immuno-compromised. She got the vax, but it really doesn't do much for her. There are millions more Americans like her. These people need our herd immunity.

The current mask refusal and pandemic of the unvaccinated is killing some of our most vulnerable people. We, as a society, should be better than this. And, I would expect anyone from the party of "choose life" to implicitly understand this line of argument!

@ElwoodBlues Absolutely. The thing about Mankind is we were given an innate sense of right and wrong, and we were given free will to choose. We don't need to rely on scripture for Morality and Ethics. We should already know what is right.

I also agree with your observation about cultural christianity, always fighting for the unborn children, (which I absolutely agree with) and the apathy for the people who are on this side of the womb.

"We as a society should be better than this". It's true. We all know what is right, but we each want what we want and that gets in the way of the common good.

I think the bit about face masks is found in the book of second opinions

@QuixoticSoul Here's a more scholarized rendition, from a word-for-word translation from Aramaic and Hebrew sources: (NASB 2020)

"45 “As for the person who has the leprous infection, his clothes shall be torn and the hair of his head shall be [a]uncovered, and he shall cover his [b]mustache and call out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’"

It actually kind of checks out, depending on what the Law defines as a defiling disease. Anything to do with rotting, blood, and excessively mucous secretions tend to fall in this category.

@SW-User Still waiting for these jokers to follow the word of God then, haha "Unclean!, Unclean!" 😆

@spjennifer A sudden jump into Levitical Law would probably destroy our way of life lol

People who follow the Bible in how to live their lives only cherry pick it anyway. Not too many people stone their kids to death for disobedience. No one has killed anyone for wearing clothes of two different types of material for ages...
I would hope that people have a better reason to protest a mandate.

Politics and self-serving interests.
Well we'd have to hear his defence of it or we're just putting words in his mouth. Did he invoke Acts 5:29 for that? I will say this, he'll need more than that 1 verse to make his case
