Has anyone tried hypnosis therapy?

What were your results? Did you find it helpful? Did it change your life or was it a waste of money?

I have a friend who swears by it. She started going to help her depression and anxiety. Said it changed her life for the better. So I figured I’d give it a try. I’m trying it for the same reasons. I’ve done traditional talk therapy for many years and didn’t find it helpful at all. I read a study that 6 treatments of hypnosis therapy was found to be more effective than 6 treatments of talk therapy. I’ve done 2 treatments of hypnosis so far and I think it might be helping a bit but hard to tell. Might be too soon to know for sure.

Interesting topic. I recall reading stories about hypnotism being used as a replacement for anesthesia for minor surgeries with some success.

@Heartlander Theres also some uses for dental work as well as "hypnobirthing, where hypnosis is used vs an epidural

Yes. I've tried EMDR therapy for PTSD. Very powerful therapy if you ask me. But I had to make it through a visualizing test first, it takes a very visually strong mind for hypnosis to work my therapist told me. My boyfriend tried EMDR too and nothing happened. So it's very individual if it will work on you or not. I personally worked on each session result, the imagery that shown and analyzingit from different perspectives and sometimes adjusting the memories, that's how I noticed an improvement.

@Queendragonfly thank you for replying and telling about your experiences I appreciate it

Yes. Im doing hypnotherapy for ptsd and it does work. You just have to go with it. If you start doubting yourself after the session it will ware off. It works by convincing your self what you believe about yourself at a sub concious level. Same effect as your mom constantly telling you she loves you or a bully always calling you a looser. Eventually you believe it and it becomes apart of you.

@GuyWithOpinions I can understand that. Thank you for your response and sharing your experience I very much appreciate that

Yes I tried but it was a long time ago. It did not work for me at all. Some people are resistant for one reason or another. I did not feel hypnotised one little bit either. Mind you it does work with some people and I know many who swore by it to quit smoking.
There is no one size fits all ...

@revenant for sure. Makes sense. Thanks for response
What's hypnosis therapy
DisarrayedNightshade · 36-40, F
@darkknightt a google search will explain it better than I can

It's complicated. Hypnosis and curses work the same way. If you believe in their power to affect your life then they can.
DisarrayedNightshade · 36-40, F
@Dolimyte ok thanks for your input

I've listened to various hypnosis audio recordings... With varied results.
DisarrayedNightshade · 36-40, F
@Sidewinder I would like to hear about some of your results if you feel like sharing
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@DisarrayedNightshade Some of the ones i listen to have me dozing off before the end. While others have no effect at all.
DisarrayedNightshade · 36-40, F
@Sidewinder I feel that. I had some similar experiences with my appointments as well. One time I felt like I was about to fall asleep. Another time I felt like the appointment did nothing at all. But I have felt more relaxed and had less looping thoughts going through my mind after the appointment was done..
