My Opinion on Adult Friendships

This is me just randomly venting. It is so hard to make new friends as an adult. For a myriad of reasons.

As an adult people have more priorities, they’re more damaged emotionally and also simply don’t have the time for you.

Every “friendship” is more or less “acquaintances”. They don’t really care about you on a deeper level, they just sort of keep you around to maintain the illusion that they (and you) have a social circle. You’re more or less subconsciously agreeing to maintain this shared facade.

Despite this, I still feel like true friendships can exist in adulthood. I have a best friend who I’ve known for eight years now and we are incredibly close.

So I think adult friendships; true adult friendships do exist, but it’s rare…it’s really, really rare. Which is so unfortunate. And given how our social interactions have become so digitized in the last two decades; it’s no wonder so many people don’t have anyone at all.
