@hakm23 Well, ideally it works both ways. And you never know when or where you will find it; sometimes it has been there all the time. You are still young. I found my soul mate at age 27. Turns out we had been good friends for 15 years, but had never dated, never looked at each other romantically. Just took a sudden spark to reset how we looked at each other.

I hope you find one. Choose someone who is at least as smart and kind and honest as you are. Know your own imperfections so that you can accept imperfections in your partner as well. Avoid marriage as long as you can. Choose to stay together one day at a time instead. If mistreated, say it's unacceptable immediately. If he can apologize and mean it (actually change poor behavior) then he's a keeper as long as you can do the same, then you're a keeper.

@hakm23 the only way to know if a relationship will work is to allow yourself to be in one that appeals to you from the get go. No one is perfect from the get go. It's like a friendship... there's an attraction but it has to "develop" or grow over time. Movies over-simplify that you fall in love and then it's lovey dovey forever. It's more like a friendship over time, something that is agreeable and give and take... there's closeness, there differences, then agreements, how to handle conflict. I think the hardest thing in life is realizing you have to be able to take care of yourself first. Many people are looking for love to find a "savior" to save them from life/responsibilities. That's not fair to the other person. A mutual loving kindness mutual respect... mutual contribution...that's what to look for. And of course comparability in sex drive. Because sex comes with its own unique challenges and you don't want to be at opposite spectrums. That's my belief. Plenty of people disagree with me. But my first relationship suffered from ignorance.. I don't want any one else being a virgin when they marry. I'm not promoting /promiscuous sex... but I don't think you should be a virgin when you marry. Thats just my experience.
