That IS the definition of a family. After they have kids, you call it YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE.

What defines a 'family'? A common theme I see is that people who are in a couple and choose to NOT have children get denigrated by churchy people as not deserving of having a romantic perhaps intimate loving relationship because of the choice to not have children. That is so fucked up.

In my case, I am single with no romantic partner since I left my narcissistic control-freak 'princess' of a former partner in mid 2018 a year after our daughter was born, and my 'family' depends how you look at it. I have three adult kids from my first relationship, so they are my 'family'. I also have a beautiful 4 y/o daughter who is my 'family'.

I don't date anyone and have zero adult love interest, so how does that fit with the god-botherers? Am I allowed or not allowed to call my situation a 'family' with one or more 'crossovers'?

if they have a cat and two dogs, yes!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Yes but children add so much to the family I have no idea why anyone would want to be in a marriage without them. Unless of course one of the partners is sterile.

@WendyLopez43 And when you are a little older in the near future and you are all alone and you would love to have someone surprise you and pop in unexpectedly..... My mother in law married her job. She put her kids in child care as she climbed the bureaucratic ladder to success. She became the top bureaucrat in her department. She ignored her kids. My mom was a farmer's wife. She would put a baby on her back and go help her husband do the chores or field work. Her kids grew up loving her and her wisdom. The day came for them to die. My mom spent her last few days surrounded by Sons and daughters and grandsons and granddaughters and great grandchildren. Love was poured out in the room. My mother in law was attended by me and my wife. Her children and grandchildren didn't care that the poor old lady was passing. Her son couldn't bother to drive across the city to see her. Yes her selfishness paid dividends.

@hippyjoe1955 If I didn't have my husband, I would rather die alone than have a kid I have no business having and would be terrible at taking care of.
