Looking for marriage in 1857

Degbeme · 70-79, M
Not even married and she`s giving the stink eye.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@Degbeme we get training for that on our 2nd birthdays. 😁
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
I think I might borrow this for my dating profile, except for the coffee planter part. Lol
meggie · F
@Jeephikelove you must let us know how well you fared!!!
reubles · 41-45, M
Pass, I'm broke and she's high maintenance
Wonder if it worked?
meggie · F
@Guardian I think there was much more pressure to be married in those days
@meggie no doubt!
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
All endotherms have warm hearts. She ain't special.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Just think how much that would have cost at that time, not mentioning the cultural differences.

Culturally she would have been considered a harlot in 1857. Women were considered property. Not able to even vote. Even male slaves had a partial vote.

Her brother or a male relative likely placed that ad. He was attempting to get rid of the responsibility of her.

Here's a far more recent and interesting example...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/10/28/fact-check-9-things-women-couldnt-do-1971-mostly-right/3677101001/

Banks could refuse women a credit card until the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974 was signed into law. Prior to that, a bank could refuse to issue a credit card to an unmarried woman, and if a woman was married, her husband was required to cosign.

Many banks required single, divorced or widowed women to bring a man with them to cosign for a credit card, according to CNN, and some discounted the wages of women by as much as 50% when calculating their credit card limits, according to an article from Smithsonian Magazine.

My own mother never had a credit card even after 1974. She passed away in 2001 never even wanting a credit card. No drive to get one.

This was only 50 years ago. Imagine what it was like 167 years ago for all women.

Exactly, I see that too regarding the French, Italians, Spaniards lolz 🤣🤣
At 6' 2" , I can't pull off small feet, and I don't dance. 🤓
So picky to rule out certain ethnicities when she has to put an ad out because she is so beguiling..... 👀
Small feet but her face .... Uh she's rich and can dance all night and comes with a free donkey. Whom she looks like.
Okay I'm going ....
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
This must be an 1857 version of a dating site. By the way her profile is set up, she just eliminated probably 75% of would be suitors. Her only option seemed to be a wealthy young Englishman or American with a feet fetish!!! 😆👣
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Not much has changed in the way of dating profiles in 150 years then.
akindheart · 61-69, F
omg...that is hilarious. times have changed.
Allelse · 36-40, M
BAHAHAHAHAHA! No Frogs, Dagoes or Jews eh?
Gibbon · 70-79, M
Emphasis on small feet Lol.
I'd pass.
So "dance" was a euphemism for...
DesiDudeJ04 · 26-30, M
REMsleep · 41-45, F
The part about handsome and reasonably young and listing all the non-desirables???
Is that real 🤔
@REMsleep Sadly, yes
meggie · F
@REMsleep you could say what you liked then.
Is that what catfish looked like in 19c?
