Why do people get married? Why should people get married?

To us it seems to have no purpose or reason to exist since it doesn't do anything.

As someone who is divorced, ive come to realize there are only a few good reaspns to get married . To legitimize children and their rights and anything that has to do with property or financial distributions. However if we dont have kids amd we dont intermingle our finaces , we dont need paperwork to prove we love eachother .
@EPreject You would to get me. I'm not free

@EPreject I would never get married because of my children - that's so controlling in my view. Kids are your kids and they love their parents regardless of whether the parents are married, wear a ring, etc. or not. I have paperwork - called a court-certified parenting order - compelling my ex to let me see my daughter 5 nights a fortnight over every second weekend plus other conditions related to school holidays and 'special' days. There's no effing way in hell I would ever have considered marrying my 6 y/o daughter's mum because of the extreme abuse and violence directed towards me and our daughter during the first year of her life before I chose to leave her mum. My other kids are all adults now and I've paid child support as required for all my children.
