Mine are 14 and 12. I'll let you know when they stop obsessively feeding on my milk filled breasts every day. 😂
mainvane · 61-69, M
@RemovedUsername951569 it would be sweet if you share your milk with other lovers
RemovedUsername951569 · 36-40, F
@mainvane Of course I do.
DreamingOfSummer · 26-30, F
Is it ok to comment on an old post? I think it should be left up to the mom and the child. Let THEM decide. Not some stat chart or society decision.
SomeMichGuy · M
@DreamingOfSummer so if they decide never, that is ok?
becca00f · 22-25, F
@SomeMichGuy why not?
froggtongue · M
@DreamingOfSummer Totally. Too often we're pushing our ideas on others. We can have our own thoughts, but let's stop pushing others into what we think the world should be. Let the mom and child have their own relationship, just like you said.
DreamingOfSummer · 26-30, F
I've heard a lot of pediatricians say it should be left up to the mom and the child. I agree with that. It's no one else's business.
Clairebare · 26-30, F
I've heard the healthiest thing is to leave it up to the mom and the child. Not everyone fits into the same box.
summerwind · 41-45, F
I let my kids ween them selves off
froggtongue · M
@summerwind How long did it take them, might I ask?
Thatperson · 22-25, F
No reason to ever stop really.
Impregnatorbull · 36-40, C
Breastfeeding till 5 is a must. Then you can decide.
SomeMichGuy · M
@Impregnatorbull lol. how do you come to this conclusion?
Impregnatorbull · 36-40, C
@SomeMichGuy actually the Dr have. The kids benafit a lot
SomeMichGuy · M
@Impregnatorbull Lol You need to read outside of that bubble.
Anna96 · 26-30, F
My mom let each daughter choose. I was the longest and stayed till 6.
froggtongue · M
@Anna96 Having naturally weened and for sticking with it for that long, do you remember doing it and why you stopped? I don't think we hear enough stories from those who grew up in such a manner.
Anna96 · 26-30, F
Of course I remember.
froggtongue · M
@Anna96 Would you care to describe what you remember here or in a new post? I'd love to hear.
mainvane · 61-69, M
one of my gf's never weened her son. her's 8 and still suckles. it's their secret till she old me
Sara05f · 18-21, F

becca00f · 22-25, F
Me too!
exploringfantasies · 51-55, M
@becca00f: I'd ask my wife to let them as long as they want too.

This confuses one aspect of attachment parenting with the attachment parenting, itself.
And attachment parenting is the logical extreme of helicopter & lawnmower parenting, so I think it's really surprising that it looks like it fails in primary goal of parenting: to develop offspring who are able to be independent adults.
It's the perfect pretext for controlling, invasive parents.

Let the kid go for as long as they want. If both the kid and mother want it, why stop it?
RemovedUsername663019 · 31-35, M
I think they should choose and theres no real limit, we are mammals and have good natural insticts... except we drink cows milk cradle to grave with natural hormones not meant for us that cattle wean after 4 weeks, that's far more crazy, plus when do people stop liking beasts I mean come on!
Pdad49 · M
Let them suck as long as they want!
RoboChloe · 26-30, F
I find attachment parenting (AP) to be totally unnecessary. There have been studies suggesting that there are psychological benefits to closeness with one's parents at a young age, however it's also unhealthy to spend all their time with a parent and none with other children. The balance that is struck by more standard parenting is not there by accident.
SomeMichGuy · M
@becca00f What data exists about the length of breastfeeding over time?
SomeMichGuy · M
@RoboChloe In what I have seen about AP, it seems it is more about the parent than the child...and might better be termed smothering parenting.
Part of parenting is to help your child be able to exist in the world. How do you prepare them for that when what you have done is to basically teach extreme codependency...? What happens to these children when the parent dies?

Yes, and don't know but probably varies by individual.
Goralski · 56-60, M
I seen some ladies who do it till 10 or more on TV
AnonymousJSS · 22-25, F
I say the limit should be 3- once the kid is 3 years old. Such bonding is good for both the parent and kid.
froggtongue · M
@becca00f That's much better. And I hear around the world that it's more common for weening to be at that age.
Khenpal1 · M
Generally , it may be a good idea to breastfeed much longer today. Immune system of the child may benefit from it, dairy products of today are not high quality.
Khenpal1 · M
depends on child , individual evaluation is needed

2 years seems to be the outside range for some. I see no harm in it.
after that there may be some issues.
but there are some interesting Varients, depending on circumstance
