I find attachment parenting (AP) to be totally unnecessary. There have been studies suggesting that there are psychological benefits to closeness with one's parents at a young age, however it's also unhealthy to spend all their time with a parent and none with other children. The balance that is struck by more standard parenting is not there by accident.

@becca00f What data exists about the length of breastfeeding over time?

@RoboChloe In what I have seen about AP, it seems it is more about the parent than the child...and might better be termed smothering parenting.
Part of parenting is to help your child be able to exist in the world. How do you prepare them for that when what you have done is to basically teach extreme codependency...? What happens to these children when the parent dies?
