Success, yes, but it is difficult in some ways.

Realistically, if possible, it's best to have a relationship with someone you can be with when you want.

Anyone contemplating this question should read this story:
"The Life and Death of Jesse James" by Josh Olsen in LA Weekly.
It's easy to find if you Google it.
This story kinda says it all. I find it hard to comprehend the motivations of such people. But this kind of thing does happen a lot online.

I've been involved in a LDR relationship for several years.
Although I met him online, we met in person before we made any "commitments".
We have our issues but we're still making it work.
I think I just like people to be far away though...my bff is quite distant too LOL

Just had yet another bad experience with someone messaging me pretending to be a middle aged woman who just wanted to chat. After about 6 messages it started to turn pornographic. Very depressing.
I also had what I believed to be a real friendship online with what I thought was an older woman. But then, after telling me what a terrific friend I was, she suddenly stopped communication. Also depressing.
I guess the Internet is just not a good place to interact with people.

I would have to disagree with your last point. I think the internet can be a minefield when interacting with people, but it can also be a great way to meet people and find the better characters out there. There are more good people in the world than bad.

@Theo182: I hope you are right. My faith in people is at a low ebb after being played by a perv. I thought I was making a friend. This person was patient and subtle.

Its really great if you able to find someone you can genuinely connected..
Theo182 · 36-40, M
Yeah, I guess that's the hard part; actually finding someone with whom you have a connection. So you have had a good experience with this?
illw84u · 36-40, F
I dont know, actually.. but for me everything is real..
