What are your thoughts on LDR and meeting people online?

What are peoples thoughts and experiences with this? I've had one LDR and it didn't end well, which has made me very retiscent to ever go down that road again. Has anyone ever had a bad experience? Any success stories?

Just had yet another bad experience with someone messaging me pretending to be a middle aged woman who just wanted to chat. After about 6 messages it started to turn pornographic. Very depressing.

I also had what I believed to be a real friendship online with what I thought was an older woman. But then, after telling me what a terrific friend I was, she suddenly stopped communication. Also depressing.

I guess the Internet is just not a good place to interact with people.

I would have to disagree with your last point. I think the internet can be a minefield when interacting with people, but it can also be a great way to meet people and find the better characters out there. There are more good people in the world than bad.

@Theo182: I hope you are right. My faith in people is at a low ebb after being played by a perv. I thought I was making a friend. This person was patient and subtle.
