Today it is very common, particularly in women in a licensed profession because think of the hassle changing everything.

Why wouldn't it be? Why should anyone change their name for marriage and even if you come up with a good reason, why would it have to be the woman?

Well of course. But it is best if she and her husband get on the same page before the wedding. If he won't back her up on this, they may have a lot of other disaggreements ahead.

Yes...my wife actually hyphenated her last name. In the US by doing that she use maiden name...my last name or the hyphenated name. All are legal to use.
