I normally pay with a card, and if the lady offers to pay I maybe suggest that she leaves a tip.. But it doesn't really matter as long as the meal and the company were nice.

I'm traditional. Hold doors open. Help her in and out of car and always pay on the date.
Friends split the bill. I don't date friends.

Back in my day, the gentleman courts the lady. I don’t mind splitting the bill—I’m more than prepared to cover it completely but it just feels weird.

I can buy food and entertain myself. I’d rather do that alone though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

In all honesty, if it’s a first date and he is ok with me paying, there probably isn’t going to be a second date.
SAandME · 56-60, M
When I was younger I would pay but now for equality it is Dutch.
SAandME · 56-60, M
@Spoiledbrat Not HAD to but was EXPECTED too, which i did not mind in the slightest it was how things were then. There was no debating it, the woman did not question it, i did not think about it you just did it.
But now you’re like screw that. You had a change of heart apparently because if you didn’t you’d still be paying. @SAandME
SAandME · 56-60, M
@Spoiledbrat And that is because women started to give me an ear full saying they are quite capable of paying themselves so to save on the hassle it became easier to go dutch.
id feel a bit scummy expecting mah date to reach into her pocket..
Or they take you somewhere they pick. I don’t think they have to pay every single time. Whatever floats people’s boat.
SAandME · 56-60, M
@Spoiledbrat As i just said i stopped because women changed not because i did.
I would have most likely let you. It depends on how I felt about you and where I thought it would or lead. I wouldn’t want to be “indebted” to anyone. But if someone pursues me and I want to let them I’m going to think it rude for them to not pay. After a dating phase or for dating meetups I think it’s okay to pay separate tabs or take turns. @SAandME

@Spoiledbrat I have decided as you wanted to know not to leave it at the brief answer. After i long time married i suddenly found myself single again in my late 40's, after a period of time getting my head back together (and with encouragement from friends & family) i decided to try dating again. I was still old school wanting to pay for the date however i was soon put in my place, the first date told me quite bluntly she had a well paid job and was able to pay her way. The second was more polite telling me she would prefer to go Dutch but the third totally laid into me for trying to pay. I can not remember the whole rant i received but it include she was not some mans puppet, she was quite capable of paying for things without needing a man to do so and that i was a chauvinist pig for even thinking i had the right to pay for her. After that i suggested going Dutch at the start of a date or even before when we chatted online. However as i am now back in a relationship it is no longer an issue but you asked a question here so i answered with how i now think.

I depends, really. I always offer.

The first time, it is whoever asks the other that should really pay. Just etiquette.
In certain circles, going Dutch is offensive. It signifies not wanting to meet again.. or something like that.
I'd rather take turns. He can pay then I can pay and so on and on and on.
SW-User
After the way he treated me, he'd better pay!

Or dutch. Whichever.
Salix75 · 46-50, F
Depends who invited whom, but it's always polite for the invited party to offer to pay their share
MrRobinson · 51-55, M
I tended to go for coffee for a first date. Who pays doesn't matter, but I was happy to pay.
Tarxarin · 31-35, M
Im going to offer to pay, quite honestly insist.

But, i take mental notes like its a game of chess.
SW-User
Well, she could go with someone much, much better, which is practically anyone, so yeah, I should pay...

If I go out to eat, I don't care. Like, I'm literally going to fight to pay the bill because I'm Chinese af. There is nothing that will stop me from paying that bill. Nothing.
