Would you date someone who never learned how to read?

No
Because they wouldn’t read my love letters
SW-User
@Meduxa The ex and I never exchanged any. I understand now that it would have been a one-sided correspondence.
Fluffybull · F
@Meduxa I'd miss getting letters, little notes, etc. The written word means more to me than photographs.
SW-User
@Fluffybull Oh yes, I did miss it very much. I'm just saying I now understand more about why it never happened.
Fluffybull · F
Hmm, that's an interesting question. I would have to say no. My husband's dyslexic and has only read one book all the way through in his life but he can read and deal with correspondence though I tend to read long legal stuff to him coz it's a lot quicker. But a total lack of literacy? No.

@Fluffybull My fiance had never actually learned how to read.
Fluffybull · F
@WendyLopez43 Does he have any wish to learn now?
WendyLopez43 · 26-30, F
@Fluffybull yes, he's taken classes.

I guess I have done so without realising it. I never once saw my ex read a book. When I asked him about it, he said he had difficulty with reading.

No. The most they can hope for is a minimum wage job.

No. Not that it wouldn’t mean they could still be an intelligent and otherwise fantastic person. But the way all of my relationships have started have been heavily text-based. Lots of comments, messages, novel-length letters to each other. It’s just how to hit my romantic epicenter I suppose.
exexec · 61-69, C
No. I'm afraid hat wouldn't work.
Peapod · 61-69, F
No. If someone couldn't read at my age, I would have to wonder what was going on in all his years before meeting me. Reading is such a basic skill.
WendyLopez43 · 26-30, F
@Peapod some athletes never learned to read.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@WendyLopez43 This is true and they make a lot of money. But honestly, I have always been attracted to more of the intellect type of guy. I am an avid reader myself, so it would be more a compatibility thing.
WendyLopez43 · 26-30, F
@Peapod That makes sense, I'm engaged to someone who never had learned to read.
It would make preparing a prenuptial agreement a great scheme to relieve them of all their worldly possessions..
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@wndylopez43 ] basically does it really matter if you are compatible and happy that is really a minor issue
WendyLopez43 · 26-30, F
@smiler2012 lol, I'm marrying someone who had never learned to read so yes.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
No. Are there extenuating circumstances? No.
justbob · 61-69, M
If we were compatible probably yes.
No. I learned to read at 4 y/o
