I've seen it personally.

Yet just look at the Zo é tribe of Brazil, for a large group, that has been around for hundreds of years. And that is a matriarchal society.

The women pick multiple men.

People have been brainwashed into thinking polygamy can't work. It's how they grew up. And the existence of Zo é tribe, for hundreds of years, gives proof to the brainwashing.

@DeWayfarer The difference is the tribe in Brazil has always practiced this, whereas other cultures do not. To assume the remainder of the world will look at one small segment and automatically accept their traditions is kind of outside the realm.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Quimliqer I believe I said hundreds of years. And I said so for the opposite reason. That it is possible on a "long term" basis. Which is the topic of the Post.

This mass hysteria against polygamy is world wide.

"The majority is never right..."!

Do you understand that during old testament times, that the men had multiple wives? 🤷🏻‍♂

That as well was polygamy. It worked for thousands of years in that case.

I use the Zo é because they still exist, as well as that it's women that take the lead instead of the men.

You want more examples? I can give them. Like with the Mormon's of Utah in the 1800s. The mass hysteria against it was massive.

It's the mass hysteria that IS the problem! Not that it doesn't WORK or can't work.

Whats the real question you're asking?

Yes poly relationships can work.
Yes marriages can work,
Yes asexual relationships can work.

Yes a vegan diet can work,
Yes a carnivore diet can work.

What works for you works for you.
But any relationship generally has at least one other person and they need to put in the work as well.

(I say this as a relationship therapist of sorts for years)

@lovingdead The question is if it works why is it not getting paid? Where is my money?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Has for me.

They can work, but I have seen them end marriages, too.
Theyitis · 36-40, M
It definitely works for some people.
Ramk78 · 26-30, M
I believe in long term
Alyosha · 36-40, M
Polygamy can work, but there are cases where it doesn't.
GeminiRain · M
My ex wife is into that and he is a married man whose ife has health problems. No I don't agree with that at all. She needs to commit to one person and one person only
SleepingWithGhosts · 46-50, M
I don't think that's a good thing.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
It takes a specific kind of people to be ok with that. I think jealousy would eventually be inevitable in my opinion.
GoFish ·
no. i believe in being exclusive
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Be great if it could be true but unlikely.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
It can work for some. It requires a lot of communication, honesty, and trust. Many of the problems found in exclusive relationships can be found and magnified in poly ones.
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
Maybe short term, but not long term. Someone will get hurt and the relationships will change
It can and does but I don’t think it’s the typical experience
Tracos · 56-60, M
it may work from some people
Probably a lot fewer than expect it
dirge · M
its an interesting concept, but it seems like there are a plethora of potential problems
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
I think it can work, but like any relationship, it depends on the people involved.
Mudkip · 31-35, M
Personally I don't. But everyone is different, things get too messy and complicated. Not for me. Now or ever.
They're not right for me... that's all I will say.
