@Renkon Well, my husband is my best friend, so most likely him then. :) My other close friends know me in different ways, but there’s depth with them, too, shared history and memories, moments my husband wasn’t there, so it’s hard to say.

My spouse left me almost a year ago now, but we are on very good terms. She actually is my best friend, so I would say her.

@Renkon Yes, as friends. There is no intimate stuff between us anymore or anything like that. After ten years of marriage, it just wasn't like it used to be. We have become much better friends than we ever were as husband and wife. We don't argue or anything anymore, we just enjoy each other's company.

i have no spouse - i am unspoused? no, that would imply the past presence of a spouse.

so i have never been spoused?

i was raised essentially without friends - other than adult friends of family... since thirteen years, i have made some school friends and lost them... carelessly or deliberately...

i have made friends in war... and lost some of them, too... neither a corpse nor a subordinate makes a good friend...

i have one friend, for more thsn half my life now... a strange cresture from a different world who nearly knows me...

(i must be fretting for something/someone to devote so much thought, so many words to this answer... )
