A mate of mine earns a comfortable £55k. I asked over a pint why he also has a weekend job.

Without pausing a beat, he said “it’s because I can’t stand my wife and kids, and it’s cheaper and more convenient than getting divorced.”

He then chuckled and went to the bar to get another round in.

Your mate has a right sense of humour!

The way it's written implies he earns that £55k per week.

So £2 750 000 a year assuming regular income and self-employed so unpaid for just two weeks' holiday.

Oh all right, say 5 weeks' holiday but still self-employed, so no pay in those weeks. That holiday entitlement is more realistic.

Now only £2 585 000 a year.

Before tax and National Insurance, of course. Though he can probably just about afford five weeks' unpaid leave even if makes his third home in the Cotswolds and a 'Sunseeker' yacht a bit less likely..

On the right side of the law otherwise he would not be boasting about it in the pub!

Either a Premier League footballer or running a major public-utility company....

.... or of course, kidding you.

OR...

Let's read it again:

He is on £55 000 a year AND works 5-day weeks. (Plus his weekend work.)

@Locke I did wonder that on second reading. It was the way he said it that made him sound as if on Water Company chairman's rates!

I wonder if she’s aware? I put up with so much in my marriage because it was easier than rocking the boat. I knew he was cheating at the end but ignored it because at least I didn’t have to fuck him. When I started fantasising about him being knocked off his bike on the way home from work and killed I knew it was time for a divorce.
Locke ·
@Bleed He’s not cheating, that’s for certain, marriage seems to have put him off women. He still pays finances her business, pays for the house and the things the kids need. He is contented spending his weekends doing a job that makes him happy.

I couldn’t do it. I’m glad me and my wife are an equal partnership of love and trust.

@rocknroll wrong. It is that simple. Not with a wife and kids. You will not have a cor or even come close to owning a house.

Fcuk that’s sad, what did you say.
Locke ·
@Achelois He’s happy, he loves his weekend job and he’s still living up to the expectation people have of men by providing for his family no matter how ungrateful they are.
I’m going to a barbecue at his house in July, that’ll be awkward.
