My friend says if a women is pregnant but the pregnancy is making her sick or putting her life in danger she should be able to get a abortion. If she's perfectly healthy and capable of carrying the baby full term then the women must do it. What do you guys think? And also, if a women performs a self abortion should she go to jail? If so, for how long?

Abortion as a method of birth control is reprehensible. Life is precious, and killing one because the pregnancy was the inconvenient result of an irresponsible act and embarrassing is wrong. And it's not only the mother's body that is involved. A child is going to die. An unwanted conception is the ultimate irresponsible behavior because there are so many different ways to prevent it readily available. However, in my opinion, another option should be available—a government-funded abortion, which a judge can also mandate. The consequence is that should you accept it, you also accept mandatory sterilization...for both parents. There must be consequences for the termination of innocent life.

Indeed, if the pregnancy endangers the mother's health or if the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest, termination in those cases is a viable choice.

The Roe v Wade standard was that abortion should be legal up until the point where the fetus was viable outside the womb. That standard still makes the most sense.

With modern medical technology, that viability point is somewhere around 26 or 27 weeks depending on specifics of the individual pregnancy. However, a fetus can die in the womb during the 9th month, and right now in 2024, some states are forcing women to carry dead necrotic fetuses due to ignorant laws. Leave it up to the woman and her doctor.

BTW, despite horror stories spread by anti-abortionists, the few abortions that happen in the third trimester involve non-viable fetuses that threaten the mother's health. And they are vanishingly rare. Remember, you need a doctor to agree to perform the procedure.

Interesting info on who is getting abortions when. 92% occur in the first trimester; they are very rare beyond the 2nd trimester.

If she wants an abortion she should obtain one. No conditions- apart from the age of the foetus so as not to compromise her health. No jail time. Where is the crime?
If she cannot get one then go to a more advanced country where the religious bigots do not have control.

I agree with your friend but also if they are raped they should be able to get one.
I think the perfect choice to determine what a woman can do with her own body is to leave that decision to a bunch of politically appointed old white men who have paid for god knows how many abortions themselves over the years but now need to pay their party leaders back for giving them cushy jobs for life....by saying anything they are bribed to say.

A woman’s got a right to make her own health choices about her body and whatever is in it. She should not be punished for whatever she decides. Whether or not it’s ethical for her to have an abortion is between her and God.

Self abort is a no no u can die and if ur baby is making u sick. / that would be a shame but ud have no choice. 😭😭
Thetinydog · 26-30, F
@496sbc I think it's sad and scary. It's kinda scary that abortion is about to be banned everywhere, regardless of the physical health of the women

@Thetinydog Ik exactly what ur talking about republicans and what not but let me tell u a small story my / buddy and his girk was gona have a baby. The baby was 9 months along. He had a major fight with her over I believe a car or something. The next day she aborted the child. Was she wrong

It's her body, she's the one that's going to be carrying the baby and eventually taking care of of it, I know people say that life is precious and while that may be so if for whatever reason, health, unplanned, unwanted, rape or anything it's her decision if she wants to get an abortion, I don't any reason good enough to bring an unwanted child into this world, there's other circumstances that need to be considered like the father but that's for another discussion.
Convivial · 26-30, F
@Anielka agreed... Ultimately it's her decision...
BigBulge · 41-45, M
I am 100% pro choice; and abortions should be safe, legal, and free of charge.
if it means the taxpayers are gonna have to subsidize someone from birth to death......... the taxpayers are better off with a 500 dollar bill as opposed to a 500,000 dollar bill.
Ynotisay · M
Any woman should be allowed to get an abortion for any reason.
Religious zealots, who give two shits about "protecting the babies," should have NO role in that decision.
rrraksamam · 31-35, M
I'll leave that decision to the women.

Of course
If I fall pregnant again, the chancs of either of us survivng are lower than those of survivng. Yes. They should be available, legally, regardless.

A woman should be able to get an abortion period.
