Overused Words I hate Part 2

Gaslighting.
Getting sick of this one; apparently we are all gaslighting each other these days.

It's not even a good metaphor since it really means nothing to anyone anymore. Other metaphors like "up the creek without a paddle" gives some kind of idea what it means.

Not sure If I've heard 'Gaslighting' before... Probably for the best.

@Thevy29 Gaslighting is where an abusive person lies about the psychological abuse they inflict, in an attempt to try to convince the other person that they are imagining things. It's almost always much more harmful than the abuse itself, because the end result is to convince the other person that they're crazy.

It comes from a movie of the same name. In it, this woman's husband literally messes with the gas lighting in the house, turning it down just a little bit at a time, and when she asked him if it's darker than it used to be, he tells her the light is right where it always was.

In politics, the meaning of the word gaslighting has gotten muddied and mixed up, and now is being misused to describe a politician who is a liar.
