The best book I have read recently is "Theo of Golden" by Allen Levi. I know several people who have read it, and all loved it.

Three books in a series that I enjoyed.

Antique text books or just old books. Pick up those old books people use for decorations and read in those. You never know what's in there. I read in one a hotel used as decoration in the room I was in. It turned out to be universety lectures from the 1920s. What stood out is how American centered the book was. It actually respected our country.

The Tales of Pell series is a trilogy of funny, satirical fantasy books written together by Kevin Hearne and Delilah S. Dawson. The books poke fun at classic fairy tales and high fantasy tropes.
Book 1: Kill the Farm Boy.
Book 2: No country for old gnomes.
Book 3: The Princess Beard.
The eternal champion series by Michael Moorcock

If you'd like exquisite prose, check out Rikki Ducornet's books, all pretty short too and they're in the Kobo Plus catalog if you use Kobo, Kindle's mightiest competitor. Her tetralogy is I think where to go which starts off with The Stain.
