Trying to make a sci-fi story

Any ideas can help develop my main story?
It's a about device that makes time rifts and teleportation for a specific area, it's been distributed to certain people to use for a certain cause, a war is coming perhaps!
So what do you think guys?

Try reading some of Orson Scott-Card's books in the series starting with [i]The Speaker for the Dead[/i]. His time machine is an "ansible."

Have a look at what the science of quantum physics says about black holes, dark matter, dark energy and the theory of alternative parallel universes. String Theory and the Universal Field Theory also suggest rich possibilities. These could provide imaginative clues.
The best science fiction is based on threads of plausibility by working from what is already known by science or posited as scientific theory.
It asks, "if this was possible, what would happen as a result of human nature?"

Think of a theme to tie it all together because that'll give you an idea of what the ending should be and what to build towards. It'll also mean that everything happens for a reason, to serve the theme, rather than it just seems cool at the time.

@TyphoidJerry: your absolutely right, thanks for noting that, i do try to make it cool, sometimes i feel like it's a sci fi drama, i get lost, and the ending yeah, it's a pain in the ass, everyone is looking forward for an epic ending.

Teleport to the future or the past?

@MikefromEP: i avoided to use time travel and creating endless timelines with thousands of possibilities, what i trying to do, is a device created by certain scientists after a trip to space to find a new planet but it ended with a failure, the plot reveals otherwise later, that the met an entity, they gained some superintellectual, intelligent power to make such device.
The story tells who uses these device in the dark city ruled by criminals.

@KaiKaga: To teleport in space you need 7 points of reference on where to travel too...So basically the one that teleports has vast knowledge already

@Jackaloftheazuresand: i know it sounds like super lame and cliche, but it is good, i made a lot of progess in it, character are amazing so far, I've told bunch a people about it and they liked it.
I am just too damn lazy to write the whole plot, or scared to be stolen lol
