Has anyone read the book “The Vegetarian”?

It’s written by South Korean author Han Kang. It’s so different from anything I’ve ever read. I’m almost half way through it now.

oh it's you! Hi there!

@MysterySci That thesis topic kicks ass! It sounds like a thesis set up for success and like it might be very fun to carry out ☺ How are you liking it?

Yeah I think I made a really good call to pick a lot of his topics, even if I got him only because almost no one else wanted to do this topic probably lol. I know another girl who also has terrible supervisors, one from our school and another from the company she is doing the topic at, and they're kind of playing tug of war with her to 1# reach research goals 2# reach business goals 😂

@MartinTheFirst I definitely loved working at the lab, testing people, documenting all that boring stuff lol 😂 But I can’t wait to be done with it now, especially the write up 🙏🏽

How long till you are done with it?

@MysterySci Yeah it sounds awesome! I don't think you're being sarcastic but I'm unsure about that last comment haha 😂 I've written most of the thesis now, it's like 30 pages so far, and I will be handing it in for the half-time review to my examiner in a few days and have a meeting with him. I hope he gives me the green light and very small requests for change so I can feel finished with this soon as well. I still have the large experiment to carry out to gather data, and then the fun part will start where I will try to explain the experiments. Setting up the experiments has been such a chore, and running them will make me unable to use my PC for 100+ hours straight 😭

How is it different?

@MysterySci It's worth a read. But it's a very different take on women's minds.

It's about a woman who works at a convenience store who is stuck to her own world and way of thinking. She is actually content living what society would call a poor and mediocre life and is even willing to lie just to get to keep living that way.

So as a go getter, it honestly felt like an insult when a friend gave me that book. I didn't even know why he chose that (i.e. if he was insinuating something because I said I didn't wanna date at the time).

But writing and reading wise, it's worth a read if only for how different it is. I read it in less than a night I think.

@Casheyane These kinds of books are the best! I wonder maybe he didn’t read the book or know what it’s about before gifting it to you? 😅 Sometimes men don’t really think as deeply as we do 🫣 (from my experience with men in general lol)

@MysterySci Maybe...I wouldn't know LOL.
