Has anyone read the book “The Vegetarian”?

It’s written by South Korean author Han Kang. It’s so different from anything I’ve ever read. I’m almost half way through it now.

oh it's you! Hi there!
MysterySci · 22-25, F
@MartinTheFirst hey!! How have you been?? I’ve logged on here after like almost two years lol
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@MysterySci I've been okay, had my ups and downs. How have you been? I just logged in a long while a couple of days ago too ☺

@MartinTheFirst same here! I’m almost finishing uni in a few months 😳 nice to see you here again:) did you finish school already?
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@MysterySci Wow really?! Me too!!! 😳 I'm doing my master thesis right now in software engineering, what do you study now again?
MysterySci · 22-25, F
@MartinTheFirst I’m getting my bachelors in psychology! 😁 Do you like what you’re doing? :))
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@MysterySci Oh that's awesome, then I guess you're doing your bachelor thesis right now? ☺ Do you have a psychology related job lined up already? I don't like the topic I got, I thought I signed up for something different than what it turned out to be, like writing code to make a tool to reduce energy consumption, but instead it's about testing existing tools to reduce energy consumption.
MysterySci · 22-25, F
@MartinTheFirst Yes, I am doing my undergrad project rn, it’s due very soon 😭 Nah I don’t have a psychology job lined up sadly. You need a masters to do anything psychology related 🥲 I’m hoping to work anywhere that will hire me tbh and then work towards my masters later…

Oh that’s a bummer…at least I hope you’re working with people you like maybe? 🫣 or a good supervisor? 😭
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@MysterySci What topic do you have, and how is it going for you? Oh that must suck 😞 If it's any comfort, master programs in general seems to be really easy compared to bachelor ones, only the master thesis is really difficult! You'll get a master's degree one day ☺

Actually the girl I was supposed to work with dropped out of school 😭 but at least I have a good supervisor! He's the head of our program, and he's very kind, helpful, and positive about things.
MysterySci · 22-25, F
@MartinTheFirst My topic is about bilingualism, we tested pairs of monolinguals and bilinguals on their puzzle solving skills. We wanted to see how fast and accurate they are and compare it. So we can know if being bilingual or monolingual has an effect on their problem solving skills.

So nice to see other people have good supervisors!! My supervisor…just kinda sucks lol. We started testing soooo late because of him gah anyways
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@MysterySci That thesis topic kicks ass! It sounds like a thesis set up for success and like it might be very fun to carry out ☺ How are you liking it?

Yeah I think I made a really good call to pick a lot of his topics, even if I got him only because almost no one else wanted to do this topic probably lol. I know another girl who also has terrible supervisors, one from our school and another from the company she is doing the topic at, and they're kind of playing tug of war with her to 1# reach research goals 2# reach business goals 😂

@MartinTheFirst I definitely loved working at the lab, testing people, documenting all that boring stuff lol 😂 But I can’t wait to be done with it now, especially the write up 🙏🏽

How long till you are done with it?
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@MysterySci Yeah it sounds awesome! I don't think you're being sarcastic but I'm unsure about that last comment haha 😂 I've written most of the thesis now, it's like 30 pages so far, and I will be handing it in for the half-time review to my examiner in a few days and have a meeting with him. I hope he gives me the green light and very small requests for change so I can feel finished with this soon as well. I still have the large experiment to carry out to gather data, and then the fun part will start where I will try to explain the experiments. Setting up the experiments has been such a chore, and running them will make me unable to use my PC for 100+ hours straight 😭
