@FurryFace To make a very long explanation into a short one, "dank" memes are basically memes that are too bizarre to understand, or very poorly made, but done that way on purpose. They're supposed to parody internet culture in general. So, like, a lot of people make memes with cheap low quality images from Shutterstock or other stock image websites. It's common practice for "dank" memes to have these types of images intentionally, in order to make fun of the people who do it without trying to make it funny.

Basically it's like taking a flaw in something and making it super noticeable on purpose, as a way to lampoon those people.
