The Time is Near

It was 2014 and I needed something to fill a giant hole in my life. The obvious answer was a dog. So off to the humane society I went, to find someone that needed someone as much as I needed them.

It was love at first sight. A three year old coonhound the shelter had named Wendy. She was found on the side of the road and brought to the shelter. She was adopted and returned several times because people don't know how to potty train a dog.

She went home with me and I promised her she'd never see the inside of a shelter again. I still remember sitting in the backseat with her on the way home. I was checking to make sure she wasn't blind in her one blue eye as I contemplated a new name. She definitely wasn't a Wendy.

Since then she's been with me through everything from buying my first car on my own, moving far away from home, and buying a house with a yard for her to claim as her own. She never left my side the six months I was going through chemo when lymphoma turned my world upside down.

Fast forward to this morning when the vet confirmed that my sweet Maggie has lymphoma. The vet went over the options with me as I tried my best to keep it together.

"Treatment can get expensive very quickly."

If anyone knows I'll spare no expense for my animals, it's the vet. But the truth is, Maggie is 14. Even with treatment there are no guarantees. I simply can't stand the thought of her feeling miserable from a bunch of trips to the vet for the rest of our time together.

So for the next four to six weeks she will get prednisone slathered in peanut butter. Along with all the treats and ear scratches she wants. In reality, she'll probably get more ear scratches than she wants, but I doubt she'll protest very much.

Vet knew I needed another dog, and the animal shelter had Splenda, Who was anxious to get a forever home and meet people, Splenda met people in nursing homes and hospitals until the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020.
Splenda is still with me today, eager to meet new people.
Triumph was Cremated. and his ashes are on the bookshelf with his last collar and dog tags.
Spend as much time together as possible,
When Ready, Adopt another dog. .
@IPmyPants I've told myself I'm not going to get another dog. I've had the same internal conversation before and talked myself into it twice now. It'll take some time, but I'm sure I'll end up with another furry friend.
