Just a thought

I hiked a mountain today. Over 2000 ft elevation and probably 5 miles total distance. Im over weight and out of shape. I left the military in 2018 and had lots of challenges.

With 2 funerals this year i no longer have parents. My life has made many abrupt changes recently. I spend a lot of time at a computer since im going back to school for computer engineering.

I decided i needed to hike this trail to see if i still could do it. Its a testament to me that i can still take my life back and shape it to what i want it to be.

I was exhausted only a quarter mile into the journey but i pressed on. I didnt leave anything for the return journey i said i would figure it out when i get to that point.

My legs are shaking my muscles are exhuasted. I dont know if im in better shape that i thought or if im just a tough cookie. But i did it and it felt refreshing. Like this one thing was a step to healing something that needed to be healed.

Wind was on my back the whole journey, maybe a guiding hand?

Congratulations. I left the military almost a decade before that but see this as inspiration.

I have been thinking about hiking a trail near my house. I think I might do it.

Thanks for the inspiration. I will let you know if I accomplish it.

@rhouse i must admit that i didn't do it fast and i took breaks but i kept moving and told myself i would do it. I hope you find success too it was a great feeling to have done that.

@Rokan I think that is a military thing to never quit. We have all done that during our service. I remember many tactical movements on foot carrying a 90+ pound ruck where all I ever said to myself is "just keep going, this will end eventually."
Rokan · 36-40, M
@rhouse i was drinking a black coffee all the way up and had to pee too so i had to keep moving.
rhouse · 56-60, M
@Rokan You should know better. DRINK WATER. LOL
Rokan · 36-40, M
@rhouse it has water in it. The doctor said i can have one a day!!
rhouse · 56-60, M
@Rokan LOL. Which service were you in?
Rokan · 36-40, M
@rhouse The air force and you?
rhouse · 56-60, M
@Rokan Army so maybe you don't understand the reference to "Drink Water" That is an Army Drill Sergeant thing.
Rokan · 36-40, M
@rhouse we all have our varriations of things similar to that. Once out if training though it was less like being in the military for me. Even when i deployed overseas i went alone akd not with my unit.
rhouse · 56-60, M
@Rokan I also deployed as a singleton and without support. I support all the services even though of course I still have that service rivalry in my blood.
Rokan · 36-40, M
@rhouse yeah well that was one of the best psrts of the military having that rivalry.
