Good for Missouri

Missouri residents voted half of its city council out over an AI data center deal. I have no issue with AI, I really like technology but research suggests that if this world has more data centers it might make the earth dry and also electricity would go up as it takes huge amounts of electricity and water. I wouldn't mind it if it didn't but because of this fact people should fight back.

I don't understand all I know about these AI and other data centers.

Maybe I should use AI more.

@MoveAlong I'm having a blast making shitposts with generative AI, but the biggest problem is these data centers generate an incredible amount of heat. You know how when you've left your PC on for a while, it gets really hot and it kind of heats up the room? Multiply that by a hundred times. So the geniuses behind the data centers have decided to solve that problem with water cooling. Great. Except the water turns to steam, and the data centers use a whole lot of water, and nobody ever thought to gather the steam afterward into like a recycling tank or something.

To me, that sounds like basic common sense.

@LordShadowfire Why can't they cool the same way nuclear plants do? Nuclear plants return 98-99 percent of the water used for cooling back to the source.

I kind of see the problem in that AI servers are spread out over a large area but seems like engineers could work something out. I guess I should dig a little deeper into this since it looks like data centers are going to be popping up everywhere.

@MoveAlong I know, right? You'd think that would be easy enough for them to do, but they just won't do it.

@MoveAlong See my thread. The whole thread.

I'm not against AI. Just we going all wrong about it, as well as the generation of energy.

Personally I'm a huge fan of fusion power. Not nuclear reactors. It only does better the hotter it gets without the radiation.

Thanks, I will if I can find it. This whole site needs an overhaul.
