If not for the courage of the fearless crew....

I've wondered about this off and on for the past, oh, 55, 60 years.

If you're "fearless," what need do you have for "courage?"

Apparently (I had to check) it means you display a lack of fear, despite feeling it. So, it's a visible expression of courage in the face of the fear you feel, but don't outwardly show.

@Richard65 Yes, but they're fearless. Meaning they are not feeling the fear for which they would need courage to overcome.
