Interesting .. the article made me curious if the moon could ever leave Earth orbit but it seems it will eventually find a stable point and stop moving away

@BlueGreenGrey Maybe. I got the impression that the Moon will continue to recede indefinitely, but I don't know.

@DunningKruger Huh. I guess not. It appears that the moon will stop receding when both bodies become tidally locked to each other. That said, that won't happen for maybe 50 billion years, according to something I found online, and the sun is going to hit red giant phase in maybe 5 billion years or so, so there's that.
@DunningKruger interesting ... I've always understood that as the sun ages and grows, this will end life on Earth by at least burning off the atmosphere, but apparently also the sun may well engulf Earth in 8 billion years ... but if it does not, it still may cause the moon orbit to decay so that ultimately the moon is torn into fragments, which will then in turn ultimately fal to Earth
