I have heard some business owners say that they would rather hire a well-rounded liberal arts major who has spent four years thinking in diverse ways about a variety of subjects than someone trained in such a narrow way that the training will be obsolete in a few years.

One of them said that their number one reason for firing engineers within a year is the inability to write reports. I suppose AI might help nowadays, but I suspect the more general issue is "inability to communicate."
