Why is it called going 'commando'?

i don't understand why that term is associated with going without underwear.

And. I don't understand why I'm wondering. Being sick does strange things to me

Because of the tv show Friends. There’s an episode where they coin the phrase.

@SomeMichGuy Well, I hadn’t heard of it before that. It was used a lot after that, and it seemed to be because of that episode. 🤷🏻‍♀
