I'm a relative newcomer and don't know the history of SW and its predecessor, but I don't think any of these choices. Maybe I'm too old to have high expectations of anything anymore, but I've found this a reasonable place to park to have a laugh, make a friend, exchange ideas that range from silly to useful.

My only real regret is having been blocked by a seasoned member during my first week here when I was still learning to navigate the site...blocked for using "big words" which she deemed indicative of a "better than" attitude. We might've become friends if not for our conversation's surprise ending. No worries, I'll be fine after another one or two sessions with my analyst 馃槉

Hi katy! Welcome to this place! The history you speak of is interesting to learn about, but knowing of it doesn't make any difference at the end of the day. The old site is gone and it was much better and SW has stayed as it was unpacked right out of the box. What does this mean? It means you've already seen the best this site offers from this one thread alone. There is nothing more nor will there ever be. I'm feeling very positive as I tell you this!

With regard to being blocked by a seasoned vet, that doesn't actually reflect on you in any way, let me assure you of that. There is a lot of mental illness on this website, a lot of admitted drug addicts and there are more alcoholics who hang out here than I've ever encountered in my offline world. In particular, this site has way more than any website's fair share of abusive misogynists. For that reason, I strongly suggest you avoid interaction with a specific few in your private mailbox.

Speaking of using big words, keep in mind that the SW standard has been to use one-word answers or full sentences comprised of a maximum of 5 words with lots of spelling errors and poor grammar to respond to most posts. The choice is your's. Another good one is the over-use of the 'heart button' which most of the more illiterate ones use as their official means to acknowledge multi-paragraphed posts containing big words consisting of more than 4 letters. Now you have 3 options for responding to posts, the latter being the least desirable.

I look forward to reading your big words and if I don't understand them, I'll just Google their definition but I won't bit*ch about it nor will I block because of it! Enjoy the ride!

@swirlie Thanks! I didn't feel reflected upon. I use the vocabulary I have without intentional embellishment. I consider my using the occasional "big word" as a compliment to the reader by assuming they already know it, and if they don't I assume they'll do as you and I do, which is to look it up and to begin using it from that point on.

We can all give "gifts" like that to one another. I look up words I see online many times a day and appreciate each "donor." There are many blockages on the way to a good discussion/debate, mismatched premises and mutual knowledge of the subject being two, but our common language should be comparatively easy to fix.

Many thanks for your response. And now I'm going to reach up and do the least-recommended option...and heart your post just for good measure!
