Had a friend in the US I chatted to for 7 years last year I travelled from Australia to meet him and his family and never heard from them again , sometimes it works sometimes not , but we were good friends for that 7 years , it was sad to loose that friendship but we move on , best of luck.

It hurts when they simply fade into silence instead of taking the time to say goodbye and explain why they need to move on.

Quite true. I've made some wonderful friends online and have met a few in person. Other strong connections disappeared from my life. I guess I've experienced both the joys and pitfalls of online friendships. I consider connections and friendships / relationships real whether online or off. If I connect, truly connect with someone, I consider them a real friend, part of my life. Sadly, not everyone treats online friendships that way. To some, online friendships, even ones that become deep connections, are disposable.

@diablesse: moi? Would I do such a thing?
diablesse · 56-60, F
@Alien-Zipper: no, you'd find a way to get yourself invited

@diablesse: my powers must be greater than I thought... ;-)

I agree completely... I've made friendships online that I never thought possible..the only thing that's missing is to actually meet them in person. But even if that never happens, I count these relationships as real as any I've ever had.... :-)

In that case, keep it handy... I prefer a rubber mallet for that purpose...

This is basically a fickle and shallow world, where everything is nothing but surface.

It is mostly, but there are some people on here who are totally worth the effort and I have been lucky to have come across several and to have formed lasting friendships.

I met someone on EP that I connected with almost instantly. We both were married , had kids. Her marriage was failing and my relationship with my husband was good . We knew each other very well and were great friends for two years .,, then because I could not talk to her on the phone or meet with her in person... Because of work security ... She changed and eventually became someone I could not stand. And finally I broke off all contact with her. It was a long painful process. I miss my friend so much everyday... But now she no longer exists and the hole left in my heart still hurts. Be careful what you wish for , you just might get it.

I met someone on EP I became friends with. She met me in New York when I was visiting. We had an amazing time together there and we have become even closer friends since. She's more like a sister to me than a friend. Sometimes it does work.

An excellent observation.

Its way to rare, anyone can make a friendship or relationship, but making it last is what matters

It is rare, but when it happens it can be wonderful.
