Instead of a support animal

There should be support friends.

You know..they simply help you get motivated...help keep you going...assist with chores and give you pep talks.

Yes.....

This is the way.

So ironic seeing this! So someone in my neighborhood posted in the NextDoor app yesterday - looking for someone to just come keep them company for the day - hoping it would motivate them to take care of tasks they’ve been avoiding. They weren’t asking for help with the tasks…just some company. The amount of responses blew me away! So now my neighborhood is creating a subgroup for this exact thing. Someone commented that it’s technically referred to as “body doubling” - just asking someone to be there while you complete tasks. It’s especially recommended for folks with ADHD.

I need a permanent body double I think to hold me accountable. Lol

@Ynotjenn Yes. I had forgotten that term and apparently people like me with ADHD and other such issues....tend to do better with someone just present while they do the stuff. I think it is true because i absolutely used to have my friends over while i cleaned and they just sat and we used to laugh about it.

Body doubling. I try to get my son to do it with me. Like...lets do our homework together...but he is a teen and it isn't cool to hang with mom. 🤣

'Yes hello. I'm needing 3 support friends tonight and just 2 support animals this time thank you. Yes my debit card'.

@SW-User yes!

Support animals are better. They never ask you to help them move or drive them to the airport 😉

@Zaphod42

See ...I am the person who will absolutely do that for my friends. But they don't tend to do the same for me.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
@JaggedLittlePill Yeah, I feel ya. I do that for friends also, but I’ve come to resent being asked to because I know the day I need that in return they’ll be no where to be found.

We could still reward them with little treats.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Harmonium1923 yes....now I want to be a support friend. .. for the treats.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@JaggedLittlePill I owe you a lot of treats. ❤️
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Harmonium1923 aww...thanks. I don't need anything really...just a little lonely right now.

Could those be life coaches?
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@SW-User

No...I dont want someone to think they have all the answers to life...just to be hanging out with me so I feel less lonely.

Having other people around makes me feel better, not sure why.

@JaggedLittlePill A life coach who thinks they have it all figured out isn't a good life coach. A good life coach is someone who can look at someones life and help guide them in a certain direction.

But friends are also amazing to have. I've not met a friend though who stuck by me through it all. There are way too many ego issues that come in.

We're social creatures, so it makes sense to feel better in groups. Group can be of 2 too.

Nah...I'd rather support animals.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@caesar7 Good for you.
