It boggles my mind that people don't understand proper table place settings.

How do you not know which fork is for what or what plate or bowl is for what? You've got to be kidding me. Everything has a specific purpose.
You still have no clue that many people are lucky to have food and one fork.

Of all the things I worry about, glitzy stuffy etiquette is not included.

@Mamapolo2016 The only reason I know is because I was taught by my parents. It just comes in handy because you don't want to look dumb in front of business people or the big wigs.
@Addictedtoglamour If one moves in such circles. Not everyone does.
@Addictedtoglamour I know which fork to use. I just don't care to have dinner with stuffed shirts who care about that sort of thing.

The same way you don't know that this website's purpose isn't for posts like this.
leeloh · F
@Addictedtoglamour @Addictedtoglamour Well, taking into consideration that it has guidelines and rules, it's narrower than that. For ex. we must never speak about glamor.

What's the point in the end?

Food = inside mouth

That's all it matters really
Addictedtoglamour · 31-35, M
@Doometernal Etiquette reasons.

@TheSentinel sir,I will have you know I'm a lady of means and class ...I save the straws for the gravy 😌
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Sounds pretty OCD to me!

Got a pocket knife? Well it's now a steak knife! It actually does work!😁
Really · 80-89, M
@DeWayfarer
Got a pocket knife?
Sheath knife is better sill - the camper's uni-tensil; good for anything you can't drink/ingest straight from the can. Useful for killing cockroaches too :)
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Really I like to be prepared for anything. And my pocket knife doubles for many other things! Like a screwdriver, cann opener, corkscrew, even scissors! 🙃😈😁

I have been to black tie events where people worry about those sorts of things and also eaten with goat herders in Africa sitting on a woven mat where you break off a piece of bread and scoop out a bite of food from a community pot. Give me the community pot any day.

Even most people who go to black tie dinners don't care which fork you use as long as the conversation is good.
Formal social dining isn’t the norm for most people. Many business meetings and social events are much more casual than in the past. Those who need to know it typically do. I’ve only had to use those skills once in my life. It just isn’t isn’t that important in the great scheme of things form many.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
So many people were never taught this and I don’t understand why!!!!
@Jenny1234 You don’t understand class differences ?
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
@bijouxbroussard what do class differences have to do with this? Yes, some are taught at home. I also learned it in Brownies when I was 7 in order to earn a badge and also learned it in school in grade 6. Brownies and school are open to all classes of people
@Jenny1234 You said you didn’t understand why. It’s not considered important to everyone, and in many instances it is a class issue.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
There’s a salad fork, and a fork for meat.

THERE’S A DIFFERENCE PEOPLE!

Fucking Neanderthals
Addictedtoglamour · 31-35, M
@JoeyFoxx Don't forget the fish fork
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Addictedtoglamour what the fuck is a fish fork?
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
Should I use woven or plastic paper plate holders when I have conpany
Addictedtoglamour · 31-35, M
@JohnnyNoir I like woven. I think it looks nicer/more expensive.
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
@Addictedtoglamour and they don't slide as much as the plastic ones
JonathanC · 61-69, M
I'm betting you raise your pinky when sipping a cup of tea.
Addictedtoglamour · 31-35, M
@JonathanC I don't do that.
JonathanC · 61-69, M
@Addictedtoglamour Barbarian!
PhaqueYou · M
Nah... I understand other things.

Like helping the needy.
I came from a lower middle class family that never went to restaurants that had every plate, fork and other dinnerware set out to expose me to this situation and force my parents to teach me. I learned much later in life only because I was genuinely curious.
Use whatever works. Forks for food that you stab, and spoons for food you slurp. That's all a person needs to know.
Miram · 31-35, F
It doesn't matter. What matters more to the "elites " is whether or not you can help them make more money, and achieve more power.
BigBulge · 41-45, M
Miss Manners says it's alright to eat with your fingers...
JonathanC · 61-69, M
@BigBulge Even soup?
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
Bruh the point is to eat not to stress about arranging tools for no good reason

Addictedtoglamour · 31-35, M
@SkeetSkeet Still.
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
@Addictedtoglamour I don't think there's just one right way to eat. Various cultures use their utensils differently compared to the "proper American way"

Do you like my snufflupagus?
