How do you get the courage to message someone on here?

I'm always worried about what someone will think. It's not weird to do, it's normal for a site like this but still. I get nervous

I've sent a message expressing a thought or interest in getting to know them better. I included an indication I'd respect their choice if they were not interested. The approach seems to be received ok, even if nothing went forward. I've made some friends that way.
