18, and video game exposure should be allowed, but kept at a minimum or on special priviledge. Otherwise the kid's gonna miss out on creating a connection with nature. A connection to nature in life should be apart of every childs up bringing. Woa be to the children raised in the city.
i am not against kids having technology but i am against parents shoving their kid in front of a TV rather than hiring a proper sitter or getting a relative to keep an eye on them when they go out...
My kids got theirs when they started secondary school and were getting a bus there and back. So that's age 11 here in the UK.

I think it's when they start driving.. however, I got my son his at age 14 because he was traveling a lot for academic team meets. They could never give me an accurate time to pick him up at night so this way he could just call me from the bus and tell me when they were almost back at the school. it helped me out a lot for him to have one..
I went by when it would make my life easier for them to have a phone. With both, it was middle school. When they started spending more time away from me and there's greater need to be able to get in touch and coordinate.
@mozgoz. You hit the nail on the head! Technology has in fact superceded humanity. For everything technology gives us it also takes something away. Technology is also a tool to take us away from nature or even picking up a real book. Why? When we are immersed in nature it takes away the desire or urge to work. Those in power no this secret. Which brings to mind this statement during a board meeting. 'We will build them cities and they will have the freedom to leave work and go home but return to work for us every morning for the rest of their lives. Yet, they will truly never own anything. The bank will.' Rockefeller 1906
when i was 15 i ran up a £400 ($573) bill on my cell phone and at the time the contract was still under my dad's name because he worked for the cell phone company. He got me an iPhone 3 before it even came out. He saw my bill for that month and used my mom's hairbrush on my bare bottom... And he said the phone company had cut off my signal and to get it back i'd have to pay half the bill up front... £200 ($286) was two months worth of allowance money for me...
I think, personally, 12 or older. However, I got mine when I was 9 or 10 due to a specific situation. My best friend, the first friend I ever had, moved away at that age. I received the cell phone to make long distance calls, as did my sister. After she cut off her friendship with my best friend and had no reason otherwise for a cell phone, our "shared" iphone we got later on became my iphone.
I see 6 year olds with iPads and iPhones and I find it disturbing. There is an interesting article that explores the idea that giving your young child (2-8) such devices equates to child abuse. There are schools that require parents not to give their child technology until they are 14 or even as late as 18; it is apart of the contract. I'm not picking either side, but I find it fascinating.
I got mine at 23. But me and my best friend were the only ones we knew that had one. Nobody had a cellphone back then, they cost a fortune to buy and were expensive to use. And many places where there was no coverage.
