What Is Something That You Don’t Understand?

I like to watch restaurant videos on You Tube, especially buffets. There are at least three YouTubers who pack in plate after plate of high-calorie foods, regular size portions of everything, and they’ll get at the very 3 or 4 desserts after all of that and one older man will pour caramel syrup, chocolate syrup and other such things on a bowl of ice cream besides the pie etc. On Vacation Education channel it’s a father and son, the father is in his 70’s. I don’t understand how he’s not a diabetic or have heart issues. He eats so much protein that his kidneys could develop a disease as a result. And they to buffets very often to make their videos. I am 70 years old and I could maybe eat one plate and some lean meat, salad, vegies and one dessert if it was gluten-free, no bread etc.And I still feel stuffed. Not even sure I could do that any more. And what puzzles me is why their stomachs are not pooched out and bloated.

Mike Chen is another one that puzzles me. He gobbles down huge portions and keeps going back for more & more. No bloated belly and he doesn’t look overweight either, wears fitted shirts.

How does this happen? Especially with middle-aged or Senior aged people to. Be able to eat like that and not have heartburn or serious health issues? It looks like they are cleaning their plates every time before loading up more plates.

Maybe they're not really eating all the food? If eating is the basis of their channel, they could be faking it a little to stay outrageous enough to be noticed. They wouldn't be the first to do something like that.

I've seen plenty of videos where i could tell they were faking it. Sometimes they even turn off the comments and keep the video up, instead of deleting it.

I usually comment on the videos I find to be fraudulent. I recently found out they can remove comments, which is disheartening

Lol I watched a video of someone showing how to make your own sanding belts. Their method was questionable, but i wanted to try it out until I noticed at the end of the video, the finished product had arrows printed on it just like the factory ones. It was obvious that the metbod didn't work, but the youtuber faked it at the end, rather than scrap all the previous footage

On the other hand, i have 2 friends in their 60s who eat the way you described. Both are healthy as a pair of oxen and one of them is as skinny as a rail.

The bigger guy can really put it down. He's like a demolition machine and has methods for gobbling down a lot with less effort. Like, instead of wasting time cutting his pork chops, he'll cut the meat away from the bone, roll up each half and and eat them each in one bite.

I took him to a mexican restaurant that I had discovered that made burritos bigger than my head. The first thing I thought it was bringing my buddy there. So I did. We each ordered burritos. They're both huge. He was done with his before I was a quarter way done with mine and I had to take half of it home. And I'm 6'-1", 220 lb (I could've eaten more than half, but that wouldn't have left enough to take home for later🙂. But half was a meal)

@Jayciedubb They gobble it down on Vacation Education, the old man too.
With seniors, it may be a $$ thing. Like if you see an elderly person eating alone, that may be his or her only meal that day. Also, some of the food may go into their pockets. Those alone people may also be widows or widowers. When the spouse dies they lose half of the social security benefits, but real estate taxes and car/home insurance isn't reduced to half, leaving a tight squeeze financially for some.

@Heartlander He eats enough for 3 days though. And that son pays for his meals out of his YouTube proceeds and gets a tax write off. I’m talking about the You Tubers who do this. Also those who are into competitive eating like huge meals for free if they finish it in a certain amount of time. There is a young woman with several children, she is slender. She goes around doing those 5-pound steak challenges. She did one in Oklahoma and finished in time with all the sides. A huge amount of food.Months later did it again except she finished off two dinners in the allotted time period. Then she said she was thinking about doing 3 dinners. How does her stomach not bust open from this? The only other time I have seen anything eat like her was a buzzard eating a dead skunk on the side of the road. It was in constant motion rapidly shredding the skunk flesh and swallowing it. That woman was eating that fast.
@cherokeepatti There's an AI explanation of how they do it. The Nathan Hot Dog world record is like 75 or 76 Hotdogs in 10 minutes. The competitors practice and train their bodies by expanding their stomach capacity 3 fold prior to the eat-off competition. Then prior to the competition they purge their GI tract from top to bottom to make room, and when they eat they don't waste much time chewing so it all just slides down into their stomach and intestines.

I remember years ago there were suggestions that the competitors wore colostomy bags to expel any gut build up while they were eating, but on just checking, AI says no.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Heartlander Oh believe me they wouldn’t want to wear a colostomy bag for an eating contest! It would come loose on them while they were sitting at the table if it overfilled. They hold about a pint.
I can eat a lot, but I’m nowhere near this guy Matt Stonie’s level. He’s a competitive eater(yes that’s a thing) who’s been at it for over a decade. He can smash 20,000 calories in one sitting and stay skinny as hell. How do they do it? It’s all for views. Aside from guys like Matt who eat live in competitions, a lot of creators probably edit their videos and we don’t see the food being taken away or throw away. For the rest, they either starve themselves by skipping meals before a shoot, or they strictly restrict their calories for the rest of the week to offset the massive cheat meal.

Don't know my dog finishes a plate that eould fill me up at half my size.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Munumbis Dogs can scarf a good sized burger in 3 seconds. I saw a Rottweiler do it at the car lot after I made burgers and an old man (who loved that dog started talking before he took a bite, he had that burger in one hand. That dog took a run and grabbed it swallowed it before that old man knew what happened.
People. I know that's a broad answer. But it covers it honestly
The only I can speak on is Mike Chen bc I watched a lot of his videos and was even in his discord for a couple years. He actually goes to the gym a lot! He's spoken often about how he religiously goes and I think he also shares of the food with his wife

I don't understand how an infinite number of tiny universes can ALL be contained within the Mandelbrot equation. And how everything OUTSIDE of the equation is chaos. AND I don't understand why ALL the cool little universes look like paisleys, each one edged with a fringe of paisleys...going on and on forever.

I'm one of those. Now a days I fight for calories. For years I pigged out and only very slowly gained a little weight at a time. Just high metabolism I guess.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Gibbon I lost my appetite over a month ago and watch the videos to see if there is anything at all that I might want to eat. I still don’t have much of an appetite and have lost about 10 pounds. I used to eat a lot more than I did even before chemo because I cut down and went on a resistant starch diet for about 6 months and lost weight (it regulated my appetite to healthy) and a couple times lost weight on the keto diet.

After taking iron supplements and getting an iron infusion my digestive system is inflamed. Now I don’t tolerate dairy well except for Chobani yogurt and Chobani yogurt drinks, or coffee, chocolate or spicy foods. I struggle to find something appetizing that doesn’t cause indigestion, heartburn or digestive issues. My blood sugar is good though and so is my cholesterol and has been for a good while.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@cherokeepatti I'm not compatible with the Keto diet because Keto asks my pancreas to do more than it can, asks my mouth to enjoy something I can't taste or smell, and removes the easiest foods I can get into my body when I'm already struggling to eat and keep weight on. I can actually digest the fat but very little is it in can I stand to eat.

I lost weight also. That's what happens when you can't eat regardless the reason. My A1c is controlled and like you, my blood work is normal.
You have different issues than I have. We're both fighting the same fight for different reasons.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Gibbon Keto is not really good for me either. A few weeks OK but a month of it I get so constipated I don’t feel well. Need those resistant starches to create a healthy gut microbiome.

Metabolism....my Dad's was fast and he ate what he wanted - which was way more than I'd ever eat...he was tiny! My metabolism is super slow and I have to stay below 2000 calories a day to keep my weight flat....I have gone through periods of 1200-1500 to lose weight...not easy but glad to say I'm still 168lbs - same as when I was 18....
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@fun4us2b Well you’ve done very well to keep your same weight. Probably the healthiest thing that you can do for yourself. (And economical too since you won’t be spending money buying larger sizes). Anyway sitting at a feast with others packing it away around me is so tempting. I can’t eat like that now, nothing with gluten so no bread, gravy, foods with coatings like breaded fried chicken or fish etc, and most desserts are no good either. Anyway I can find healthy foods to eat with a salad bar & green veggies and lean meats.
fun4us2b · M
@cherokeepatti In a way it's self regulating - I feel awful after over-eating...I also cannot eat much gluten....the Dr said I am Celiac, but I'm not 100% convinced, but definitely feel better avoiding...in a way, it's best not to obsess over it - and just sort of keep the same boring diet every day...with a treat now and then....
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@fun4us2b people who are celiac with have some forceful diarrhea with even a little contamination. Maybe it’s something else. I am not a celiac but if I eat as little as the equivalent of a couple slices of bread or other things I’ll get a pain in my hip joints that feels like a fat needle is injected into it. Very painful and I have had to grit my teeth to walk around in stores to do my shopping because of it. I went off of gluten for two weeks and that pain left and hasn’t returned and it’s been about 9 years now. It also makes it easier to keep the weight off. I have gained weight due to finding gluten free things to cook but not so much in the last few years. I’d have to force myself to eat a lot and I doubt that’ll happen ever again.

A friend of mine was at a Chinese Buffet when the owner rushed a obese man who was going back for his third plate of food screaming as he went. "You go home now! You too fat!".

This is an easy question. Something I don't understand. Let me give you one simple word answer..
