I saw something where deaf parents taught sign language to their baby and the baby could sign from around six months because motor skills develop faster than vocal chords. That suggests that they might think visually, it's just they don't usually have a way of communicating until vocal chords and speech develops.

@PatientlyWaiting25 used to take all my kids to ding and sign when little, amazed they'd communicate with hand signals before words came out ( most usual sign was for more food!!) x

It’s better to associate the new person with something visual like saying their name with a colour or a shape. Blue eyed Lisa. Green eyes John. Otherwise the method of saying the name a few times like most people do in their head fails.
