I know all the athletes involved worked and trained hard to get to this point in their sport but IMO, the world is going through times and has much more important issues to deal with. Since these sporting events attract hundreds of thousands of people, it makes it a perfect site for terrorist groups and protesters and would also become an easy target for attacks. I think the World Cup and the Olympics should be cancelled.
Too late for the world cup but it's going to be a flop, just like a recent parade.
It's probably too late for the Olympics too but I predict that international travel will be lower than it otherwise would have been. I was planning to attend but I will not cross that border as long as this regime is in power.
The World Cup, no because it's really too late, plus Infantino has shown that he has no problems with holding World Cups in countries with repressive, autocratic regimes. The Olympics, on the other hand? It might depend on the results of the midterms.
