What the heck does it mean when someone keeps saying things that contradict?

Like one second they're praising you, the next they're accusing you. One moment they're calm, the next they're angry. They ask you to tell them things, then get mad at what you say. Nothing makes sense, what is that?
That’s a huge red flag and a signal to run. Nothing makes sense because you can’t make sense out of nonsense. They’re just a large can of mixed nuts. 🥜
They're making the rules up as they go along. The lack of consistency is to shake your confidence and plant seeds of doubt to assert control over the dynamics between the two of you. You can't reason with someone like this. Disengaging is your best bet, at least in the moment
@HijabaDabbaDoo this makes so much sense, but I wonder why? I'm pretty chill, why hurt me?
@MarbleMarvel the reasons can be endless. I've found people who assert inconsistency and control above all else love to hate and hate to love. It doesn't matter who the supply is. Having a sense of self-importance is their drive. You ever talk to someone to work together towards a solution but instead find they're working towards being right? You're not part of the picture to begin with.
I sometimes look at people with traits that make me feel confused, uncomfortable or upset and go by the idea of the scorpion and the frog story, why do I expect the scorpion not to sting?
@HijabaDabbaDoo So true. And now that you said it, yes I do see how the goal is to be right, not find a solution or compromise or care how their actions or lack of affect others.

That helps me understand why it was always about him. If I talked about anything at all, it became about him. And if he couldn't turn it into defensiveness, he'd start whining about his own life and how it was worse for him...

It's actually painfully clicking now. It wasn't love for me, it was the love I provided. Oof.

Thank you for this insight. Seriously 🖤

I have finally learned that when I hear myself say that I'm confused, while trying to make sense of a person's incongruent and contradictory words/actions... I know I'm being manipulated.
@StarLily it's blowing my mind it a manipulation tactic. It makes me feel like nothing when they do it.
StarLily · 51-55, F
@MarbleMarvel Yep, that's how it makes me feel too.
I had to learn the same lesson many, many times until I finally realized that the biggest clue that I'm being manipulated, is feeling confused. Please be careful, listen and trust yourself... truth + honesty = clarity, not confusion.
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
Sounds like someone trying to manipulate you.
@NeuroticByNature is it meant to be confusing? So I am stressed? I'm definitely confused.
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@MarbleMarvel manipulative people are confusing.
It means the wheel is spinning, but the hamster is dead.

That sounds like something I personally have gotten enough of to where I can’t be bothered. My advice is don’t even bother trying to understand it and just get out of there. Life’s too short to suffer that noise.
@Ducky Is this a common thing people do?

I agree 🖤
Ducky · 31-35, F
@MarbleMarvel I’m not sure how common it is, but I’ve been married to someone like that for a while now.
Sounds narcissistic to me...

If this is while In a text scroll and not "Actual Speaking" perhaps you're reading into the text incorrectly.
@Iwillwait they will tell me I'm the greatest person they know, then the next minute accuse me of trying to hurt them. Which is it? 😂
Iwillwait · M
@MarbleMarvel I have this at work. I am not sure what to do, but move on, take note and try to never engage again.

I’d say that they were fake. I’ve dealt with a couple like that and that was their truth. Could be different of course for others.
