I am amazed (and not in a good way) how some people can pick and choose which of their promises they want to keep,

and which they break with no concern, yet still call themselves honest, and protective. Do you know anyone like that? Do you believe them anymore when they start a sentence with "I promise..." 🙄

twistedrope · 26-30, M
At my job I talked with one of the execs about this. Promises not being kept. Basicly, the deal was "If there is no substantiality, it's not worth placing weight on."

Promises or expectations that have no actions in front of you or anything, aren't worth relying on. We used it in our professional context to decide whether to rely on outside help expected to help or just do it ourselves and say "You showed nothing in reality so we didn't depend on you."

In personal relationships, people screw up. They do, that's being human. But asking for help and doing nothing is... Again, no substationality. If a partner does something like cheats and asks for forgiveness and says they'll go to a therapist, there is nothing to depend on. They had to have already gone to a therapist after the fact to earn back even a grain of trust.

:3 Lessons learned, oh well.

@twistedrope Yep. You learn who can be trusted and whose words are nothing but BS, and you stop putting any belief in them.

I just nod my head at people like that and know full well they're not going to do anything they say they're going to do.
I might say things like "I'll get back with you later if I need help",knowing I'm never going to get back with them.

@Justmeraeagain I feel ya. Same.

My Dad thought me a lesson as a boy
Our mother died in April leaving our Dad to bring up 7 of us, the of us, the eldest of us.was only 10
Their was important work to be done on the farm, saving hay,mid summer.
He promised to bring us to the sea , we all picked in
It went to late for the seaside trip to happen.
I was was very upset and said to my dad. you promised.
Now son, do you not know that promises are made to be broken
That stood to me in critical times in my life by never depend on a promise
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@antonioioio I don't depend on them now either.
antonioioio · 70-79, M
@LadyBronte it's all about whether the other person cares enough about you, to make the effort

@antonioioio Exactly.

People who don’t keep their promises are the ones whose actions and words never match.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Bleak That's sure the truth.

"Your words mean nothing when your actions are the complete opposite."

But isn't it funny how "unpleasant" words still mean everything even when your pleasant actions are the complete opposite.
Why is that?
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SmileOnYourBrother I don't know. 😔

Never had anyone say that to me. Sounds like something a chick would tell a guy I guess.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@HobNoblin Sorry. It's the complete opposite.

You always have to check behind their backs.

I definitely do. This person doesn't even start with I promise. They just say we are going to go out and do this or that and I know there is an 85% chance it will never happen.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Musicman Some broken promises crush you for life.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@LadyBronte Fortunately I haven't had one that bad yet. I am so sorry you have. 💔😢
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Musicman Thanks.
