Is there a way to get someone their birth certificate?

i know this lady in my area thats been homeless for yrs, cause her mother wont send her her birth certificate, are others allowed to get it for her, or is that illegal? ive thought of doing that but dont want to do something illegal but she cant even get an id to get a place unless she has that. i cant take her in cause im in an apt building and we'll both get thrown out, any suggestions, it gets cold here in the wintertime

You can get them online. I think that's about the only way to get them these days. Does she know where she was born?

@pearllederman Might have to be more specific than that. Like the county or town. There are companies that will do searches, but I don't know what it costs,
