what does it mean when you have a kidney ultrasound and it shows you have a small cyst?

i had one done yesterday, i saw it on a patient portal, just wondered if they'll do a biopsy or what they'll do about it.

I think those are usually benign. They may just keep an eye on it or just to be safe, remove it. They should be able to do that without invasive surgery, by laser, but I'm not sure if they do that with cysts, like they do stones. Maybe they can even do that vaginally, and remove it, but ask questions and options before going for surgery. Get well soon. 馃 Keep us posted. Some will be praying for you.

I鈥檝e had a cyst for years. As long as it鈥檚 round, doesn鈥檛 grow too big, or becomes misshaped they usually do nothing.

Hi sweet Pearl....If you have a "small" simple cyst on your kidney, it is most likely harmless and requires nothing be done at all other than maybe a follow-up ultrasound at some point in time just to see if it increases to any significant size.

(I'm basing this answer on the assumption that you do not have a history of kidney cysts, nor any family members who have had such a history as well.)

You take care..hope that helps a little..I am not a doctor....I'm just giving advice from experience of spending so many years in healthcare and the medical imaging field..

Hugs to you, and the best to you....馃
Since Im not an expert I cant answer this but I will ask Frank to answer it for you...馃槝馃挄

Likely, they will do nothing except monitor it via ultrasound throughout the future, if it's officially diagnosed as only a cyst. Small cysts on, or in, kidneys is common, and rarely ever serious.

Kidney cysts are very common. They will most likely do nothing but monitor every so often.
