Holy moly Finland ...

Did you know speeding fines are determined by how much you earn ???

Ridiculous..
What would Elon Musk be paying if caught ?

Check this out..

Why is that ridiculous? A fixed amount means there effectively is no speed limit for people who can afford the fine without even noticing, and people who are struggling to get through a month without a fine get half a death sentence for the smallest mistake. Income dependent fines mean the punishment for the same crime has the same impact on everyone. Seems a lot more fair to me.
@NerdyPotato in many countries there is also a points based system too, once you have too many points you are banned from driving
@CheekyBadger that helps a little indeed, though at least in the Netherlands that's only for new drivers. Once you have your license for 5 years, it can no longer be taken away for any number of minor infractions. And even then the rich get away "free" the first few times, and redoing their exam only costs them half a day.

@NerdyPotato Here there's the point system but all you need to say is "I don't know who was driving my car" and you get away with a bigger fine and no points reduction (sometimes preferable)

Of course only if it's a speed trap, if they stop you this doesn't work

Actually makes sense. Be rich enough and you can afford ignoring any fine whatsoever, with the system in place elsewhere.

Funny my daughter just asked me my opinion on this last night. It must be trending. I can see some arguments for a graduated fine. Poor people have proportionately a larger penalty and deterrent than rich people. This could be seen as unfair that rich people can just buy their way out of trouble with little pain. However, I'm sure demerit points would be the same and rich people's insurance would increase more since presumably they would have more expensive cars.

Quite right, so they should be.
Similarly... if the fine was set at $30 per offence... how would that inconvenience and deter Elon from just spending a week collecting tickets to paper his bathroom walls with???

It'd probably work out cheaper than a couple of rolls of high end wallpaper, too.

So it should be, if can afford to pay off a small fine were's the risk.

Sucks for that business man. Bet you he won't do that again
