We've lived in the home were in in now the last 2 years and it has a gas furnace.
Before we lived here we had a home that was heated only by fireplace. It was work. We had agreements with land owners to thin their forested property. My husband would, fall, buck, and chop the trees into firewood. We had enough firewood for our own home and to sell cords at a time to others. Our wood was always clean but bringing firewood into a house for heating always makes a huge mess.

@morrgin LMAO Good! You have a great face (profile pic), btw. You should be talking w/customers, not hidden away on a loading dock...er...UNloading dock. Of course, a bit of your face would be obscured at this point. lol
morrgin · F
@SomeMichGuy after the truck is unloaded it all has to go on the shelves which means talking with customers😉
SomeMichGuy · M
@morrgin 😊 Good! So you do ALL of it, unloading/checking it in, stocking & talking with customers. Those lucky bastards! 😉

Central heating system

Forced-air heat w/gas-fired furnace.
Radiant heat is much more even and it is not expensive. (True radiant heat, not hydronic, but hydronic is ok, too.)
You can use a wood-burning (or pellet-burning) stove if you really want a fireplace-like heat and the fireplace experience, even if you have no chimney; code makes it better to have it either on the topmost floor or against an outer wall for safe removal of exhaust gases/smoke/soot particles. Search for, e.g., Vermont Castings.

A gas furnace is main system. But I do have a wood stove that runs 24/7 during the winter months for supplemental heat. Plus it's nice to stand next to after you've been outside shoveling snow. :)
arkod · 36-40, M
@WindTherapy 👍

Gas and a fireplace for winter.

A gas-powered central heating system. There are fireplaces too. I like to turn the one in the upstairs loft on when I watch TV. :)
