Forced-air heat w/gas-fired furnace.
Radiant heat is much more even and it is not expensive. (True radiant heat, not hydronic, but hydronic is ok, too.)
You can use a wood-burning (or pellet-burning) stove if you really want a fireplace-like heat and the fireplace experience, even if you have no chimney; code makes it better to have it either on the topmost floor or against an outer wall for safe removal of exhaust gases/smoke/soot particles. Search for, e.g., Vermont Castings.
