282 today so far.

36,675 UK deaths from Coronavirus.

That's the equivalent of the population of a town like Salisbury
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 But the worldwide total - about 310,000 a couple of days ago - is extraordinarily small for a disease that has paralysed the world. And as we all know, the great majority of deaths are of relatively old people who already had serious heart or lung conditions or diabetes.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@MartinII I cannot understand the thinking of people like you.

Loss of life is BAD.
Especially when it is UNNECESSARY.

This virus SHOULD be confined to CHINA.

It ISN'T.
It's EVERYWHERE as a result of idiot politicians who gambled business before HUMAN LIFE.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 Loss of life is not bad. It happens to all of us. I think actually what you cannot understand is statistics.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@MartinII NO what YOU don't understand is that this is NOT a statistics matter !
This is a disease that shouldn't exist. Therefore it is incomparable.
Nor should it be !

That's just a cop-out line used by politicians who don't want to see their inaction or DELIBERATE action is the PRIMARY cause for the numbers.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 So you think the government should devote all its energies to stopping people dying from Covid-19, while condemning thousands of others who suffer from diseases, such as cancer, to early deaths. In my opinion that is bizarre, statistically unjustified, and immoral.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@MartinII No. I think the U.S. government should have kept in line with the thinking the rest of the world has !
Always the problem with America.
Always late. Always last. And their dumb decision making has this time cost THOUSANDS of lives.
How do you even begin to apologise for that decision? ?
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 I’m talking about the UK.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@MartinII Well 'Boris and the boyz' initially started by looking at the European data.
our nearest neighbours and all that.
Then saw numbers escalating in France;Germany;Italy and Spain and figured probably better to not follow European models then. Let's see what happens if we follow the U.S.model.
And that number was even worse !
In trying to find a model to chase and compare they dropped the ball completely and institutions had to make their own rule and guidelines as this thing progresses.

@Picklebobble2 Germany??!! 🤷‍♀️
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Harriet03 Currently researching Germany.
Be interesting to see if their numbers are lower because the standards are higher or whether their number of foreign workers in certain sectors is lower or some other factor is at play
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@Picklebobble2 They "appear" to have handled it well. Appearances can be deceptive as we all know. 🤷‍♀️
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 The fundamental point is that the British government, in common with other governments around the world, has taken the view that tackling the coronavirus should take priority over all other objectives and responsibilities, including those relating to people’s health. That was understandable at the beginning, especially when there was a fear that health services might be overwhelmed. It is neither understandable nor justified now, in my opinion, when health services have lots of spare capacity, when the risks of dying from Covid-19 are almost negligible unless you are in one of the vulnerable categories, and when 19,000 people have already died unnecessarily. (The excess death total for the UK this year was 55,000 on Thursday, compared to the Covid-19 figure then of just over 36,000.) And that’s before you take into account the effects of the lockdown on employment, education, mental health and general well-being.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Harriet03 Oh I take all data freely offered by government with a pinch of salt.
Whether or not it's in their interest to tell you the truth (if they even know it)should always be questioned I think.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@MartinII
It is neither understandable nor justified now, in my opinion, when health services have lots of spare capacity, when the risks of dying from Covid-19 are almost negligible unless you are in one of the vulnerable categories,
That is the most sensible thing I've read on this topic!
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@Budwick For once I agree with you Budwick.
Unless of course you're unfortunate enough to live in a country, that doesn't offer free to all healthcare.
Then you are very vulnerable..
Well said 👏
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Harriet03 How people pay for their health care has nothing to do with vulnerability to covid.

That's just another liberal lie.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 I think we can all conclude that you are not open to argument!
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Budwick Thank you!
@Budwick Don't even try to have an intelligent conversation with Harriet. I tried last night its impossible.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@thedarkside Thanks DARK.
Yeah that hag is something else!
@Budwick Besides being a hag she is a piece of shit,
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@Budwick Paying for it ain't!!
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@thedarkside Classy!
@Harriet03 You like being a wise guy, now everyone is giving you the respect that you deserve. Like it or isnt that that topic???🤣
@Harriet03 Thanks!
