My car keeps making a skreeeee noise sometimes when I brake or take my foot off the gas. Wtf? I only have 12,289 miles on it

Brakes have a piece of metal that makes a noise when they are worn out. You need to remove the wheel and check the thickness of your pads. Could be a rock that somehow got in the brake pads too. There is a metal shield behind the pads.
The second thing could be a bad belt. A loose or worn belt can cause a squeal.

Can you tell where the sound is coming from?
No you shouldn't need new pads but they can get dust or crud in them that will make them squeal. A lot of the newer cars they aren't putting brake quiet on.
But it doesn't sound like how brakes would respond. Might be something else.

@buriedalive I have a car right now it has about the same milage, when I back up the brakes squeal. I took it to get the pads checked even though they should have much more life in them. They said everything was fine and safe, put some brake quiet on and it still does it. It's not always there either. I think it could just be a little sticky, some crud in there. It's annoying though. And worrisome because usually when they squeal it's because they need changing.

That sound could be the sound brake pads make when they wear down to a certain point, so it's entirely possible that you need new pads, like, right now.

Skreeeees are really hard to diagnose. It could be in the drivetrain or transmission. Now if it were more like a whurrrrrr it would be easier to figure out.
