I prefer to buy food and put in the donation box for food banks.

@JimboSaturn yep, that and we have a church nearby who feeds the homeless and has a food giveaway refrigerator - I'm a regular money and food giver to them. Food banks and these other large charities have way too much overhead that drains money right off the top of donations. I like to keep it local and small.

I do the same. It is simpler to contribute and support locally.

@CookieCrumbs and when you keep it real local, like neighborhood local, it's 99% of the time run by volunteers and what you give actually gets to the people and not siphoned off it overhead costs.
Like the neighborhood church - it's all volunteer workers and the church itself pays the overhead. Which means, even though I don't do religion, I also do a monthly tithe to the church.

I HAVE, in the past. March of Dimes was one that I recall. But usually only a dollar.

What are "grocery store charities"?
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@swirlie I think like when the cashier asks if you want to donate to a specific cause like Toonies for Tummies here in the GTA

OHHH! ...right! I've had them ask a few times, but it doesn't seem to last long.

I don't see those anymore. But I don't use real money so they never ask.
